Our Story AnchorPoint is the result of the merger of two churches on August 7, 2016.
RioWest Community Church was 37 years old. It began as a Great Commission church plant, but was independent at the time of the merger. Cottonwood Church was a 15 year old Southern Baptist church. In 2014 a Futures Team was formed to ask for God’s help in partnering with other ministries in order to better impact our community for Christ. Around August of 2015 Pastor Reinaldo of RW, and Dan of Cottonwood met – and Reinaldo dropped the “M” word. Merger. The boards got involved about a month later. The congregations were informed and asked to pray in January 2016. The churches merged in September of 2016. Marriage is a better word than merger, as this became the blended marriage of two terrific families.
Our Vision Our Purpose: we believe we exist to bring glory to God and enjoy Him forever Our Mission: is to love God and our neighbors and to make disciples of all nations Our Vision: is to be gospel-centered community impacting our community with the hope of Christ Heb 6:18 (NLT)We who have fled to him [God] for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
Our Distinctives
We are a place of grace. Because we believe Jesus restores what’s broken, we have confidence in His power to restore the most desperate situations. We meet people where they are to help guide each other to our next step closer to Christ.
We are devoted to the family. Because we believe family is the basic unit for handling our faith and culture, we will nurture and equip willing families (1 or more) to grow in the Lord and impact our community/world for Christ.
We are committed to the uncommitted. We believe lost people matter to God; therefore, they matter to us. Jesus came to seek and save the lost and has left us here, in part, to do the same. We will encourage an environment in which it is safe to be vulnerable, to tell our stories and receive ministry.
We are disciples that make disciples. Because we believe true transformation occurs by the power of the Holy Spirit from the inside out, we will teach, encourage and support growth in godliness without resorting to manipulation or legalism. We will take risks to raise up healthy, replicating Disciples of Christ
We are all servant-leaders. Because we believe all believers are ministers, we will provide opportunities for ministry for kids and adults, new believers and old.
We are intentional about Small Groups. Because we believe life-change happens best in the context of relationships, we will encourage being committed to a small group. It is through these smaller communities that we become involved with others in accountable, encouraging relationships.
We are partners in God’s grand work. Because we believe there is one God, and one universal body of Christ, we will partner with like-minded individuals, churches and organizations in any way that will better fulfill our Purpose, Mission, and Vision.
